Eliza Bergin practices in commercial, public and administrative law and offers more than 25 years of experience.
Eliza appears in the Supreme and District Court, including the ERD Court, at trial and appellate level, the Federal Court and Federal Circuit Court, Tribunals, Royal Commissions and inquiries in a broad range of matters including the following areas:
- Land valuation, land acquisition and compensation, land tax and ratings disputes, rights to compensation from planning reservations, compulsory acquisition of land and challenges to acquisitions;
- Public and administrative law including Judicial Review, Royal Commissions and Inquiries, Local Government, access to documents and information, immunities and privileges, professional discipline;
- Succession law, estate litigation and family provision claims, including cross-border estates;
- Commercial litigation including contaminated land and trespass to land, restrictive covenants, nuisance;
- Environment and planning proceedings of all types including water law, waste, adverse amenity impacts (noise, dust, odour), contaminated land, cultural and built heritage, assessment of the environmental impacts of major projects, judicial review of planning decisions, enforcement action, criminal prosecutions, declaratory and injunctive relief.

Background
In 2000, Eliza commenced legal practice as a solicitor at Minter Ellison. In 2001, she was a volunteer lawyer in Timor Leste at a non-government organisation. In 2001-2002, Eliza was a Judge’s Associate to His Honour Peter RA Gray of the Federal Court of Australia. Eliza also worked as a legal officer in the Office of Chief Parliamentary Counsel (2002-2004), as a Solicitor and Senior Associate at Mallesons Stephen Jaques (2004-2010) and as a Principal Solicitor at the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office (2010-2017).
In 2017, Eliza read in Adelaide with Patrick O’Sullivan QC (now His Honour Justice O’Sullivan of the Federal Court) and Stuart Henry SC and joined Anthony Mason Chambers.
