Eliza Bergin specialises in planning law, environmental law, land valuation and compulsory acquisition of land. She also practices more broadly in the areas of commercial, public and administrative law. Eliza appears in all jurisdictions including the Federal Court, Supreme Court, District Court, Environment Resources and Development Court, Executive Inquiries and Royal Commissions. In 2019-2020, Eliza was appointed as a Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
Eliza appears for her private and public sector clients in merits review, judicial review, environmental prosecutions, trials and appeals. She has experience with the full spectrum of land valuation, compulsory acquisition, planning and environmental issues.
Eliza frequently appears in Victoria in addition to South Australia and accepts briefs to appear in all States and Territories.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Eliza practiced as a solicitor for 17 years. In commercial law, Eliza was a Solicitor at Minter Ellison and a Solicitor and Senior Associate at King & Wood Mallesons. Eliza also has experience in the public sector including as a Judge’s Associate at the Federal Court to the Hon Peter RA Gray.
